ABCs

Many wonder when they can start introducing the ABCs to there little ones. The answer is, immediately!

Although they will not immediately understand, recognize, or sound them out…exposure is everything. In school, children often learn the uppercase letters first. These are often easier to discriminate from one another. Building off of the idea of matching (scroll to previous post), you can have your littles practice matching letters. Starting with uppercase letters, then lowercase, and ultimately matching the lowercase to the uppercase letters.

Struggling to figure out how to make this fun? Don’t worry, I got you!

  • Tape one set of letters around the house and turn the matching game into a hunt.
  • Tape one set of letters on the wall and mix them up, hand your kiddo a wand, fly swatter, pointer, or something of the sort and read through the list of ABCs with them one by one. They have search for the letter and point to the correct one with their magic wand.
  • For more advanced babes, you can have them find items around the house that start with the letter in their hand.
  • For my more adventurous families, think of these as flashcards! Go to a local grocery store and have a scavenger hunt finding the items throughout the store.

One thing to remember is that you can also break these letters up. Don’t feel like you have to practice them all, all of the time! And most importantly, try to make this fun. Learning happens best when fun is involved.

I have included free matching pages below in fun Summer colors. I hope you enjoy.

Love,

Melina❤️
