Receptive & Expressive Labeling

Labeling…it seems easy, but we often forget the importance of labeling for our kiddos. I mean, when we are tired the last thing we are thinking about doing is labeling everything in our environment. No matter where you are or when it is, you can always label for your child.

Receptive labeling would be when you ask you child to show you a specific person, place, or thing. If they know what you are referring to, they’d point to or identify the thing you asked them to identify.

Expressive labeling would be you holding or pointing to someone or something and asking them what or who it is. An easy easy way to remember expressive labeling would be thinking of the song ‘Express Yourself’ by Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. (Look it up. Haha.)

The more we model language for our babes, the better! Whether you are a parent, educator, or just have a child you care about…challenge yourself this week to label as many things as possible this week!

Love,

Melina ❤️
